Our Story

Helping thousands of neighbors find a new beginning for nearly two decades

A New Entry, Inc. (ANE), is a faith-based 501(c)3 organization serving the greater Austin’s community through mental health, treatment, and housing support.

We envision every life affected by homelessness, addiction, and incarceration to be healed, restored to wholeness, and set free to live in hope and eternal purpose.

A temporary home to individuals originating from Texas and beyond, ANE is at the forefront of providing holistic, clinical, and state-license programmatic support.

Our Story

Our History

Established in 2004 by Peter Daniels – an electrical engineer turned licensed clinical social worker – ANE was originally a six-man recovery home nurtured by Austin’s Black community. Daniels felt called to provide services for men around Travis County experiencing losses associated with homelessness, incarceration, and substance use disorders, and wanted to help.
What began as a micro-operation has expanded to a full-scale trauma transformation facility serving up to 80 individuals daily in two Travis County-based locations, with thousands of clients served to date. ANE is 80% minority-governed, has a network of more than 150 volunteers, and several community development partners.
ANE is a strategic member of the Austin/Travis County Community Collaborative (CC) led by the Ending Community Homelessness Coalition (ECHO). Our non-profit is primarily government-funded and is grateful for support provided annually by the county, along with individual and corporate donors.

The essential thing is moving them into being fully alive. What are they passionate about? What’s their gift, talent mix? Maybe it’s gone untapped for a while. We help them figure out what needs to be uncovered, recovered, discovered about themselves.

The heartbeat of ANE is our dedicated, highly experienced staff, most of whom have a personal history and lived experiences with addiction and are passionate about supporting clients with empathy, kindness and hope. We are grateful to have a diverse multi-disciplinary clinical team of both master’s level clinicians (LPCs, LCSWs) and licensed chemical dependency counselors and interns who are passionate about serving individuals who are struggling to find freedom from their addictions.
